2009 Feast for the Forgotten
The Feast That Won't Soon Be Forgotten
By Judy Parker |
"Wow, have you ever seen so much green beans, corn, cranberry sauce, turkey, dressing and gravy at one time before?" This is the question some were probably asking as they entered into the kitchen at WOLC Sunday afternoon, November 22nd. How many workers were there? We were all so busy working we never stopped to count, but now we do want to stop and say a great big thank you to each one who worked and each one who contributed to this great cause.
By working together we fed over 1000 people. The food was delivered to Lee, Union, Pontotoc, and Itawamba County jails, Tupelo, New Albany, Pontotoc, and Okolona Hospitals, Magnolia Manor and Samaritan Gardens Nursing Homes, Sanctuary and Verona Hospice, Alpha House, Gardner Simmons Home, SAFE, and Salvation Army.
Sister Candi's vision of feeding those who are sometime forgotten on Thanksgiving has grown tremendously each year over the past eight years. What will 2010 be like?
Stay tuned for more. Next year there will be even more green beans, corn, cranberry sauce, turkey and dressing than you have ever seen all together at one time. Make sure to plan to join us then. It is always an amazing thing to see what God can do through us when we all work together.
